A HUGE THANKS to everyone who was involved with the
Truck Light Parade and Food Drive on December 3rd. 2005.
The parade was again a wonderful spectacle of beautifully decorated and brightly lit trucks. The IEOA had numerous faxes, emails and phone messages from the public who were in awe of the time and money that was spent on getting the trucks ready for this event.
Here are some of the quotes that were received.
" Having just moved here from Ontario what a delight it was to see your parade from our balcony!! It should have been on TV similar to the Santa Claus Parade in Toronto, mind you we liked this a whole lot better, what a wonderful Parade"
" I just wanted to thank you all for the great parade. You all put in an amazing amount of effort and I wanted you to know how very much appreciated your time and work is to so many people, especially the kids"
" We have not been able to go and see the Parade for the last few years however this year it was a week earlier so we gathered up several bags of food for the Mustard Seed and headed to Government Street for the show. Thanks again to all the police for their cooperation and the huge effort for your members to dress up obviously, day to day, working equipment for such a great show"
"Once again the Truck Parade was magical. Last year at Oak Bay and Foul Bay Road there were my friends from the seniors facility and a handful of others – this year there were hundreds!!! How can one find words to let you and all the equipment owners, who must have spent hours out of normally busy hard days decorating those massive pieces of equipment, that incredible effort was so much appreciated.
Thank you so much for such a fantastic parade of lights.
Best parade of any others…anywhere"
Non perishable food products and cash donations were collected
by the Mustard Seed at Ogden Point, the Downtown Victoria Business Association at the Bay Centre – Douglas and Government Streets, the Oak Bay Business Improvement Association and Oak Bay Public Works Department in Oak Bay Village and admission to Western Speedway was by cash or food donation. It is truly hard to estimate the total amount of food that was donated this year, as we did not have an opportunity to weigh all of it. In Oak Bay and at Western Speedway alone the amount of food collected was
significantly more than in 2004. Donations were distributed to the Mustard Seed Food Bank, West Shore Christmas Hamper Fund Society, Senior’s Christmas Hamper Society and the Sidney Lions Food Bank.
Bouquets to the Victoria Police, Oak Bay Police, Saanich Police and the West Shore RCMP
who helped with policing for the event. A special thanks to the two Saanich Police motorcycle officers who took the trucks right out to Western Speedway.
